2013 UCSF Alumni Weekend


All UCSF alumni, faculty, students, staff and friends were invited to celebrate our 2nd annual campus-wide UCSF Alumni Weekend on April 25-27, 2013. Alumni Weekend took place again at the Palace Hotel and on both Parnassus and Mission Bay campuses.

With an overarching mission of advancing health worldwide, UCSF is devoted to serving the public.  In recognition of this, the theme of this year's Alumni Weekend was SERVICE, highlighting service in education, to underserved populations, and through community partnerships, locally and globally.

Palace Hotel
Please join all alumni and friends for a fun, casual reception that includes a live performance by legendary percussionist, Pete Escovedo. He and his musical troupe will entertain us with Latin Jazz as we reconnect with friends, view school projects and enjoy light refreshments $10.

Come and hear our leader provide an update on the state of the university. Learn about the outstanding discoveries being made on our campuses, while gaining a grander understanding of the impact the university has in service to students, trainees, faculty, volunteers, staff and the greater community. Recognition of distinguished alumni from across all disciplines.

Please join alumni, volunteers, trainees, faculty, and staff to honor the graduating class of 2013 and welcome them to alumnihood. Hosted by UCSF Alumni Associations, Student Affairs and Campus Life Services. Light refreshments, door prizes and entertainment provided.

Explore some of the campuses newest and most innovative facilities on guided tours, including the brand new Anatomy Lab, the Teaching & Learning Center,  and the Ray and Dagmar Dolby Regeneration Medicine Building on Parnassus, and the Robotic Pharmacy, The Nikon Imaging Center, The Center for Advanced Technology (CAT), Physical Therapy Clinic, Art & Architecture Tour on Mission Bay Campus, to name just a few. Space on guided tours is limited and registration is required. We will release a full list of facilities open for guided tours by February 1st, so check back in a few months. Meet the deans, faculty champions, luminary alumni and students in discussion on the current state of the health care in service to education and the communities at large. Learn about the various school program's most innovative research and instruction and how the schools work together across professional and disciplines. 



UCSF Osher Mini Medical School for the Public

The UCSF Osher Center is a premier global resource for academic research, education, and patient care that combines integrative healing strategies with conventional medicine.

The UCSF Osher Mini Medical School for the Public provides members of our community with the opportunity to learn from faculty on the front lines of integrative medicine. Participate in a sample of this popular UCSF program and explore the science and practice of integrative medicine!  

In this half-day session, we will explore the research behind the science of integrative medicine, and offer opportunities to observe and if interested, participate in experiential “workshops” where we put the science into motion. Visit our website for more details:

Hear outstanding short talks from renowned UCSF alumni, postdoc and faculty innovators about their transformative research and new discoveries across a big range of projects. Speakers include Mark Anderson, Jeff Bluestone, Victoria Hale, Saul Villeda, Diana Laird and Brad Voytek. Graduate Division Dean Elizabeth Watkins will moderate. Casual reception with the speakers to follow.

Each school is offering a number of luncheons and evening galas throughout the weekend. Wax nostalgic with fellow classmates, faculty and students while enjoying a delicious meal and libations.

Shuttles depart promptly from The Palace to take San Francisco Symphony enthusiasts to Davies Hall to enjoy Eschenbach conducts Dvoƙák. We have secured excellent seats at a discounted rate. Tasty boxed dinner and champagne toast included. Register online in February. Celebrate the Alumni Weekend by going back in time! Join us for the Archives Open House Saturday, April 27, from 11 am-4pm on the 5th floor of the Library. Please come for a chance to explore the historical photo collection, view yearbooks, vintage nursing uniforms and other treasures documenting the UCSF past.

Thirty-five botanical watercolor illustrations featuring plants with intriguing medicinal properties will be on exhibit at the UCSF Faculty Alumni House from Feb. 28 through May 29, 2013. These full color paintings blend taxonomical accuracy with the individuality of each Master Artist.

Shuttle service will be provided all day on Friday and Saturday from Palace to Parnassus & Mission Bay campuses and to the Davies Symphony Hall on Friday evening.
